5 Web Hosting Tips For Small Business Owners
Every small business owner should be twenty-first-century compliant. You must conform to either new business ideas or you are left behind. If you are yet to have a website that will position your business for new ground breaking, you must grasp these five web hosting tips quickly and take necessary action.
1. Carry out an online research about your business: Before launching your business on the internet, it is important to conduct an in-depth research to discover who your competitors will be and how you will compete favourably. There is big money online and simultaneously big competition, only those with adequate information and zeal will succeed. However, do not be afraid of competition, with hardwork and dedication, you will get your share of the market.
2. Learn about hosting types: You must know the major hosting types so that you will be able to distinguish the one best suited for you. The most common ones are shared, VPS and dedicated. Shared hosting is the cheapest but with certain limitations. VPS is more expensive with more applications while dedicated is the most expensive and most sophisticated.
3. Investigate features: After identifying the right type of hosting, you will need to investigate features that are available from providers. These are grouped into plans with unique characteristics depending on prices. What you should look out for are disk space, bandwidths, user-interface, etc., that are associated with each plan. Also, you should find out the server speed, software, site building tools, design languages supported, so that you will be sure that they in accordance with your expectation.
4. Find a good web host: In order to have a smooth online presence, you must get a reputable web host that will be your source of web existence. Putting your business online means making it available for twenty-four hours. Consequently, you must get an assurance from your choice host that its server would be up for at least 99.9% of the time. If you cannot get this type of assurance, you must not lay down your purse for such a web hosting provider.
5. Let the world know about your website: As soon your website is ready, you should let the whole world know about it. Visit social networking sites, blogs, forums, write articles, launch PPC campaigns, place banners on sites with large traffic and so on. Nobody will hear about your site if you don't make noise about it to as many people as possible.

QUESTION:
Which is the best reliable web hosting service for small business website?
Here are the details:1. I'm a vegetarian, so I hope you would recommend me a green web host.
2. I've got pretty bad experience with my existing web host that only provides email support. So I need a truly 24/7 support team to wait on me whenever I need.
3. I'm into building a 50 page or so website so I consider it a small business, what kind of hosting plan do you suggest?
4. I know a quality hosting provider may be a little more ex. But price must be reasonable.
5. I would also need a platform which alllows me to expand my business in future.
6. Appreciate additional advices. Thanks in advance.
-
ANSWER:
Hi oinkrabbit,Let me help clear your doubts one by one:
1. You want a green web hosting service: I suggest GreenGeeks and HostGator as they use renewable energy to power their hosting servers. It helps the environment a lot by reducing significant amount of carbon emission to fight global warming, yet continue to provide you the reliable web hosting service you need. In fact, JustHost and InMotionHosting have gone green too, but partially. They provide options for you to go green.
2. I guess your existing web host should be the type that also provides free hosting service or a smaller-scale web host which is running on budget, that's why they can only afford email support. Take any web host I recommended above and they'll give you real round-the-clock support through phone, live chat and email.
3. In fact, it doesn't matter how many pages you build. It's the traffic volume that determines the type of hosting plan for you. Small business website can generate large traffic. For example, if you got a huge traffic volume say 100,000 or more per month, you probably need a VPS (virtual private server) hosting plan or best, dedicated server plan. It seems that you're creating a new site, so a shared hosting plan should suffice. It's very much cheaper to start off with too.
4. Thanks to the stiff competition, many reliable hosting companies offer price that are competitive and reasonable. Again, go with anyone in point 1 above and they are all reasonable. You can further compare their prices and see which one best fits your needs.
5. For expanding your business in future, you must go with a provider that not only offers shared hosting service but also offers VPS and dedicated plan so you can upgrade without changing company. Changing web hosting platform can be troublesome and may induce downtime if you screw up.
6. There are a lot more stuff to learn if you want to know more about web hosting. I suggest this site where you can get many useful tips on web hosting:
=> http://www.diehardwebhosting.com/
I think you know pretty well what you want but just a reminder - the best reliable web hosting service for anyone is through thorough testing out and using the service themselves. Your personal experience will give you the best review. Take advantage of their money back guarantee. You may get your preferred provider the first time or it may take you several months before you settle down with the one that you like best. Good luck!

QUESTION:
Question about Yahoo Small Business web hosting? Domain name? Technical Support? Sample websites?
I'm starting to design a website with Yahoo's Small Business Web Hosting service, using their SiteBuilder tool. I've hit a little stump though, and need to ask some questions.
First of all, do you have a website that you have built through Yahoo that I could see?
Secondly, do you have the technical support # for them? I haven't set up my account yet, but they aren't getting my business if I don't have all of the bugs worked out yet.
Thirdly, if you know this, I've figured out how to have more than 5 tabs, but I can't figure out how to create more than 5 pages with them. Is there a way?
Thank you in advance! I do choose best answers.
CHANGE OF PLANS!!
I figured out how to add a new page. Now I just need website examples and a technical support phone number.
Thanks!-
ANSWER:
OK. Lets see if I can help you out a little bit. I have 3 up and running websites right now, and will be starting a fourth for a friend in a week or so. Web tech support. Yes, and they are very good with helping you out at no charge. You first click into your yahoo small business account, and then in the upper left corner, you will see "help" when you click on that you will get a drop down box, and one of the options will be live help, which when you click on it, you can either call them with the number provided or they will call you. Emails work well also. When you need more pages, you will notice that you get two options, one for new page with template and one with new page without templete. I never use their templates as I just want my site to be very user friendly and simple They all work well for me and although it takes some doing, you will none the less enjoy it. When you are creating a new page, the first thing you want to do with it is "save page as" which will address it in your index, then create a title for the page using insert and then text. Right below that you will find insert image, which I usually have the pics' stored in a folder on my desktop. Remember to save each page as you go, and in fact you should do this several times per page and always at the end. Then, when all is well, click on "publish" , then you will need to furnish your password to your small business email and then click next and then it will take a minute or so to verify your password, and publish your content. Good luck

QUESTION:
What is the best web hosting domain company for starting a business website?
I am starting up a small business and would like to find the best web hosting service with domain name to store my site.
I have created web sites using iWeb before and it would be helpful if there were templates that I can use to help me design my pages as I am not a web designer.
I was looking into hostgator, but I'm not sure if they allow you your own .com domain. I like their 0 Google Adwords credit for signing up.-
ANSWER:
Host Gator is one of the top 10 web hosting providers on the Webhostingbreak reviews. I've used their web hosting services and quite satisfied with their services. Here's what the reviews criteria at Webhostingbreak has to say, http://www.webhostingbreak.com/list/top-10-web-hosting/The experts and their reviews have been quite honest, authentic. I just loved what they suggested. The reviews of Host Gator and found only positive reviews which I thought were quite amazing for a web hosting starting at .95 per month. This web host is slightly expensive than iPage who starts their web hosting @ .50 per month.

QUESTION:
Best Web Hosting for Small Business and Multiple Domains?
Hello,I know this has been asked before, but I've searched many web sites and reviews and I'm still confused. So, I've narrowed it down to Hostmonster, Bluehost, and Lunarpages. I'm a pretty technical guy, but I'm looking for a reliable web host for multiple domains that some will use databases. I'm not so concerned about a "simple" web site creator, as opposed to one that follows the HTML & CSS standards. I was going to go with 1&1 after seeing their huge ads in PC Magazine until I read the reviews. Thus, I'm not so concerned about cheap, just a service that is reliable, professional, and popular. In other words, what service would a developer recommend and use?
Thanks,
Brett
This is what concerns me: http://www2.jeffcroft.com/blog/2006/feb/27/11-internet-is-the-devil/.And then I just happened to stumble across DreamHost: http://www.dreamhost.com/aboutus.html. They are employee-owned, which in and of itself impresses me about a company. Any customer reviews on this company?
-
ANSWER:
I may not be as picky (mean that in a good way!) as you are because I definitely don't consider myself a "professional" compared to friends who have web design businesses, but we've been really happy with Host Excellence. ( http://www.hostexcellence.com/templates/he/v1/affiliate/clickthru.cgi?id=JTcaneel )There are a ton of paid web hosts out there, and my husband and I exhausted ourselves researching them before making a decision to go with HostExcellence for this site and another one we run. Ultimately, it came down to the fact that we were getting tired and we liked HostExcellence's plans for mulitple domains and the fact that they had a site builder with tons of customizable templates (many of them do, but some of the good ones on the review lists don't). My husband doesn't use the site builder for his -- he does his own code. I use the site builder until I'm more proficient on Nvu. We also liked the amount of storage and bandwidth we were given, among other things. I haven't had a complaint yet, and we've been customers since October 2005. They have excellent 24/7 live chat support that helps me all the time with just about any issue you can imagine. Whenever a service has been down (which has only been a few times), it's either back up before I have a chance to ask about it or it's resolved before I get off live chat with them. They have a ton of tools at your service, we have more e-mails available than we'll ever use, and more bandwidth and storage space than we've come close to dipping into. They have ftp storage and a really easy thing called webshell that makes it pretty simple to do ftp stuff. Php boards, databases, etc. are all available. Good luck!

QUESTION:
Looking for the Best UK web hosting?
Hi everyone.I'm looking for a good web hosting service preferably that is paid monthly and is at a very good price, Im trying to have a website for my small business which is service based so it doesn't need to be for eccommerce purposes more a case of a small site to advertise my services, no bigger than 10 pages in size.
I keep coming to places to fasthost, 1&1, and justhost etc. but although they offer a lot of "special offers" they all seem to be misleading in that you either have to sign up to them for 24mths, but pay in full (although it usually states "just £4.99 per month") I realise that it may average out at that price per month but I cannot afford a large lump sum for hosting.
So I'm either after a good host at a cheap monthly rate, or a good host which is an annual rate but doesnt need me to pay for 3yrs in advance.
Any help will be appreciated.
Many thanks

Free domain namePrice: £23.88/year (£1.99/month)

What web hosting service should I use?
I've been looking all over at different websites, but none of them are very clear.
Here's what I need from a web-hosting service, and I'd appreciate it greatly if someone could give me a good recommendation.
I need: something that will work with a mac (most sites don't say specifically whether their services are compatible with macs), a monthly payment plan, a service that will include a personalized domain name (only one domain name) in the plan/price, Japanese language capable, ability to run a small business, photo video and blog capable, a decent editing program that doesn't require advanced html/web design knowledge, and at a decent price for a poor college student. The following are not neccessary, but I would like something with personalized error pages, and a decent amount of storage space (10 gigs at least), guest book mailing list and survey ability, and decent customer service.
I liked the look of Host Monster the best, but they don't have a monthly payment plan. Help plz?-

Best Free Web Hosting?
What service is the best for free web hosting? I am thinking of starting a non-profit website and so far I have looked into microsoft small business live and google apps but I'm not sure which is better? I noticed that microsoft gives you 500mb storage for free, I'm not sure how much google gives. I am new to this sort of thing so I don't even know how much storage I'll need to run a basic site. Thanks
-
ANSWER:
Think of hosting as just a place to store files, are you going to have a website that hosts videos and music, or mainly text and pictures. 500mb is big enough for most personal/small business websites and blogs.
Fuvohosting.com offers 500mb of free storage with 5gb bandwidth (this is what let's people access your site, again 5gb is plenty for the above mentioned applications), they also let you install wordpress or a number of other content management and blogging platforms, all for free.

I am starting a small business and need a website. (I will not be selling products.) I need a place for people to come and get more info about me and my services. Can anyone recommend the best places & cheapest places to get this service? I have no knowledge of html. Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
There are many ways to monetize your business website. Providing information about your services is great. You don't need to have knowledge of html to build your own site. There are a few great web hosts that will assist you through the process. The fun part is that you find yourself actually learning html along the process. I would suggest that you take a look at several web hosts and the features/options that the provide. Narrow the list to the ones that fit your needs. Then compare pricing and you will find the best fit and get the most for your money. I went through that process and have been more than pleased with my decision. You can take a look at my web host as one of your options. http://www.tobuildyour.com

QUESTION:
What is the best business class website host?
Hello,I have been doing a fair amount of research and searching on this topic but it is hard to tell which is the best for me. As suggested, this is for a small LLC. I have been looking at inmotion but I don't know if I like the idea of having to pay for a year up front. I'd like to start off with a monthly rate perhaps.
Also, many web hosts have things like 'tiered' services, they come at various prices and such. Generally I would like it if the website loaded quickly while still not costing 500 dollars a month. I am looking at somewhere between 10-50 dollars a month right now. Any ideas?Thank you.
I know this may sound silly to some, but bluehost.com and hostmonster.com seem to be identical web sites.
http://www.bluehost.com/cgi-bin/signup
http://www.hostmonster.com/cgi-bin/signup
It looks like there are so many different but similar websites advertising these types of services and products but I cannot tell if they are a reality of a fake.
Yeah, bluehost.com and hostmonster.com are at the same location, same website, same everything. Only difference is the website colors, and junk like that.-
ANSWER:
I would choose Hostgator . I use them for all my business sites and they offer great customer support such as 24/7 live help and phone support. You should take a look at their site. Hostgator.com

QUESTION:
Opening an online store. What's the best way?
Is ‘Yahoo small business’ http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/... the best provider for web hosting, paypal and marketing online. I have studied it and thinks fine. What are the other best webhosters and service providers that helps opening a perfect store easily and secured? What are the insecurities that I have to be cautious? Please give me a general idea. Thanks.-
ANSWER:
I've built my own out of open source products. If you so desire, check out http://www.oscommerce.comBuilding your own requires time and knowledge for sure.
I also have an eBay store. It's not too expensive (around ) a month for the storefront and only a dime to list each item for a month. Adding other features will cost you more. My listing fee (for the store inventory) is only 13 cents per item per month. To list the item as an auction, however, runs me around for 10 days.
This may/may not be something you want to consider, but thought I'd toss it out.
You can check out my eBay store at:

Hope it helps!

QUESTION:
Need some advice about setting up a website for my new small business...?
Hi everyone!I am launching a new business in September in which I will offer drama classes to children ages 5-12. With launching this business, I would like a website so parents can register children, pay monthly fees, find information on the program, etc. However, I am wondering what the best web hosting site is to use. I am not a programmer by any means, so this is new territory for me. Some have suggested Yahoo Small Business Solutions, but what else is out there? I need good customer support, decent web design templates (nothing too "boring" or "cookie-cutter"), and the option to have someone pay money via credit card (maybe Paypal?). So, anyway...please help. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I am willing to pay for the right service. HELP PLEASE!

QUESTION:
Which services could I offer online?
Hello. I am 15. I would really like to start making a lot of money (50k-100k a year) online. I'm really clueless, because after a few years of research, there have been so many ideas thrown at me. I'm just looking for the best one. Here are my ideas (please don't tell me I shouldn't post ideas on yahoo, I'm just looking for feedback).1. A digital music distribution/marketing company. A service called Tunecore lets people sell music on iTunes and other stores. We would find new bands/artists, use the Tunecore service (and eventually/hopefully partner with Apple to sell directly without Tunecore) to sell their music on iTunes. We could charge a 0 fee per album, which lets them keep 100% of the royalties earned. We would also offer marketing services such as building a basic promotional website, social network marketing, etc.
2. I found a free script online that lets you make a website where bands/artists can share their music, and listeners can share, listen, rate, comment, follow, etc. We would use Adsense and affiliate marketing to make money.
3. A cell phone review site that reviews phones without all of the detail. The reviews would be straight to the point just giving a small description, pros, cons, and recommendation. This site would be for people who don't want to know all of the specifics.
4. A web marketing company. We would promote small businesses by offering websites (made with webs.com), and social media marketing. But would people really pay me to set them up a facebook account?
Are any of these ideas good? Do you guys have any other possible online company ideas that could make me money. Reseller hosting is popular, but very populated. What services could I provide online to make a lot of money?
Thanks.
-
ANSWER:
I think that your first idea is awesome! You could also combined #1 and #2 together if you wanted to. It will be a big hit.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Domain Name / Building a website?
My husband and I are looking to make a website for our small business. We know the domain name isn't taken and we just want something simple like 1 page with info about the company, so people will see it when they search on google etc... I don't have any experience building websites, so I need some help. We're looking for something that looks decent, but we don't have a lot of $$ to spend. When looking at sites like Go Daddy, iPage, etc... these all advertise things like free domain for life or 3.95/month. I know these would be easier to build a website on, but is "renting" my domain name the best option? Is it possible to just buy the domain name forever? If I do one of these and they go under, do I still have my domain name to switch to another service? Do these services produce decent pages? I just don't want to get scammed since I don't know much about it. Or would I be better off to just go to a local web hosting company? Someone please walk me through what the best option would be here and how to do it. Thanks for your help!-

GoDaddy is NOT the place to buy your domain name. Those sites that offer a free domain name as part of the hosting package are only good for as long as you host with them. They own the name and can resell it if you stop paying for hosting. Your best bet is to get a domain name from a reputable hosting service that you pay for plus the hosting fee. This will give you a good Control Panel from which to manage your site and allow you to expand in the future.

QUESTION:
Is this a good business idea?
Hi. I'm 15 and I want to start my own online company. I want to make real money (0-0 a day), not kid money. I don't want to start an affiliate marketing business, but I want to start an online service company of some sort. Reseller hosting is a very saturated industry so here are my other ideas.1. A digital music distribution/marketing company. There is a site called Tunecore which lets people sell their songs on iTunes. But for my company, we would find new bands/artists and provide that service for them. We would also provide a wide variety of marketing services. We could build band websites and market them on Facebook and other social networking sites. I could probably charge 0 for the site, and -0 per album placed on iTunes (they would keep 100% royalties, they only pay the one time fee).
2. I found a free web script that lets you create a website where bands/artists can create profiles, share their music, and listeners can rate, share, chat, follow, etc. It is sort of like purevolume.com, but aiming at a smaller niche of new bands and artists. We would make money from ads and affiliate products
.3. I've been looking, and they dont have websites that review bands. It might take a long time to write reviews though.
4. A website where people can buy and sell websites/domains. Like flippa.com, but I'm positive the industry is not really saturated, and I could make some money. I would charge a fee if the transaction is successful.
5. Lots of phone review sites go a lot into depth about phones, that it sometimes can be confusing. I have gotten a lot of feedback from elders saying that people in the phone stores are useless. I was thinking of making a site that reviews cell phones, but just gets to the point (who the phone is for, best features, pros, cons, final recommendation).
What other things could I do to make a lot of money (0-0 a day) online? Are any of my ideas good? Please don't say I should't post ideas on YahooAnswers, because i just want some feedback. I really want to know how to make a lot of money online.

QUESTION:
What is the best no-ads totally free web hosting service provider for small business?-
ANSWER:
Cruise over to:http://www.thefreecountry.com/
where there is a LOT of "free" stuff, including web hosts. DO YOUR HOMEWORK, and let your research from their page of free web hosts be your guide. There are a wealth of free web hosts out there... you just have to find one that fits your needs. At this site, of the many listed, one or more MAY fit...
YMMV...
Personally, I suggest http://www.freewebs.com or whoever they call themselves these days. All they want is a link on your page back to THEM as a free web provider, NO OTHER ADS. A link back to them as a provider seems quite reasonable to ME...
Again... YMMV...

ANSWER:
There are quite a few options and if you are careful you can avoid scams. If you are a good writer, you can try freelance writing. You can provide articles for people wit.h websites and blogs.
Another option would be online surveys. There are quite a few companies that will pay you for doing surveys online. But beaware of scams as there are plenty. To avoid scams remember one rule – a legitimate company will never ask you for sign up
fee, nor there will be any fees associated wit.h being a member. If a site asks you for a fee, then to not go there.

ANSWER:
Go with the basic cell phone idea but branch out to other things that are not currently covered online (phonescoop and 15 other sites are already doing the phones). You could write about warranties that are sold at stores when people buy a new tv set. You could analyze the chances of using the warranty compared to the cost.
Or compare skateboards. Have the manufacturers send you their latest boards so you can compare them.
