Selecting the Best VPS Hosting Service

What is a VPS web hosting plan anyway? The letters VPS stand for Virtual Private Server. VPS hosting is a single server that mimics and offers the environment and features of a fully dedicated server. Meaning that each VPS has its independent web server, operating system and mail server such that there is no resource sharing. Just the way the dedicated web servers are this servers offers one exclusive access to configuration files in your account hence creating an increased ability to run and install customized software’s that one could be necessary.

This creates more security apart from enhanced control to the hosted accounts against threats from hackers. Due to the virtual partitions present if a hacker gains access he cannot be able to maneuver to the rest of the accounts, in contrast to the shared server resources where there is a possibility of damaging all the accounts hosted on the same hardware if the hacker manages to gain access to the system.

This makes the sites run faster and access website functionality more quickly and smoothly creating less likely hood of downtime. Stability is guaranteed in VPS web hosting. This is because each account present is private and has an edge over other shared sited hosting services. Other accounts performance will not affect the others and this promises a websites stability. Access to dedicated resources like the RAM, larger disk space and the processor speed are also guaranteed by this service. This increases the flexibility on the site and for the website user creating a faster loading time eliminating a need to seek for a site that loads faster.

The VPS also has a feature that allow remote access to the virtual environment so that one can customize the it to fit one specific needs, creating an even flexible status that the normal control panel of the standard websites. This allows the account holder advanced rights to either modify the codes of the system or to even reboot the system if need be.

This is a big advantage since you can also back up or even restore activities on the account yourself. This is facilitated by an interactive user interface like Cpanel or others that can be available. Availability of enough bandwidth becomes a major consideration when one is in a VPS. This helps to reduce the bottleneck and slowness of the sites hosted creating a capability to handle big volumes of website traffic considering that availability of a much higher bandwidth. The process hence creates channels to have many websites with the help of Apache virtual hosts. Never the less, more informed knowledge is a requirement in regards to particular customization and configurations of the applications tools.

The costs associated with VPS web hosting is less due to the sharing of resources but still keeping the site safer. Apart from the main benefits highlighted, one drawback to this system is that every account has to be maintained by the owner. This however can be managed by the best VPS hosting services at an extra cost including all security and maintenance services being done on your behalf.

  4. QUESTION:
What web hosting service is the best choice to host my new website?
I seen a list of the top 10 web hosting services at HOSTAZ.com. naming lunarpages, IXhosting, hostmonster as the top 3. Now im not too familiar with what everything does- that comes with the hosting, but one thing that is different is that lunarpages and hostmonster's POP is unlimited and IXhosting is 2500.

Now im wondering what that would mean to me and the website I intend on building?

. My page is an entertainment/info themed site. So there will be streaming video, a lot of photos, newsletter, things like that.

WIll that hold me back some way or should it not be an issue?

Im thinking it's something having to do with how many email accounts my site can hold. Would love some help. thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Well, POP means EMAIL ADDRESS, and trust me you just need one or two not 2500! LOL.
IX will give you 15 different IP addresses, they are the only one out there that do that, if you plan to run more than one web site and want your sites to be spidered by GOOGLE, having multiple IP addresses is a real boos forward.
You can even interlink the sites for instant backlink power.
Their best package is just a month and you get 3 free domains, or you can just get their .50 a month package knowing that you may upgrade whenever you wish.

  12. QUESTION:
Building a Website with Choosing the Best Host?
Ok so I have this idea for a website! A legitimate idea! But I have never built a website before, so I am looking for some input from the outside world. I am looking to start small with a user friendly host, but I would like to eventually grow it once it (hopefully) gets popular. I would like to, in the future, include things such as ads, etc. I basically don’t want to limit myself. What is a good host to start out with? Is there any that you can start out free and then pay for better packages as you go? What type of web host services would you recommend? I also would like to have a www.example.com type address, not a sub.example.com or a www.example.com/dir/. So basically I would like a top level domain name. Thanks in advance for your input!

  13. QUESTION:
ad words, what are they, and what is the best domain name and?
website hosting service providers if I want to show up at the top of searches (web optimization?)

    Please advise.

    • ANSWER:
AdWords are the ads that you see along side of Google results. Search for "mortgages" on Google and you'll see a bunch of them.
You can rank highly with any hosting service. The structure of your site, the content, the domain name, and most important of all the links that you get pointing to your site are what you need to work on.
If you can register or buy a domain name that has your keywords in it you're better off. For example if I was targeting mortgages then mortgages.com would be the best domain for me (obviously this would cost $millions). But you might be able to get something like mortgages.com or something like that. Basically try to get a phrase that people search for as your domain name.
If you can't do that then try to think up a unique trade markable name that you can register.

  14. QUESTION:
    Images hosting (Amazon S3?)?
I have a website that collects and displays events, and for each event form I would like to be able to upload an image (flyer). Once uploaded I need this image to be associated with the event so that when I come to display the event on my page, the image will be displayed as well.

I have been warned that storing images in MySQL is bound to cause trouble, and I have also been pointed towards storing the images on my filesystem or to use amazon s3. Can anyone give me some advice what the best way to do this is, and if there is a way of doing it without paying for any services on top of my hosting package with 123reg.

    I need to:
Upload an image in a similar way that you would upload text to mysql
Be able to call on that image and display it on my site dynamically

I want to study biology, specifically Pre-Med, what schools in North or South Carolina would be best for doing?
I am in the top 13% of my class, in over 5 clubs including NHS(which i am an executive), have ample amounts of community service and have hosted my own blood drive. I really needed some guidance as to what would be best for me to become an anesthesiologist.

    • ANSWER:
Save thousands of dollars in tuition fees by staying in your state of residence. Go to the highest ranking public university campus in your state that admits you and offers the majors discussed below.

The best pre-med majors are biomedical engineering, biological engineering, chemical engineering, etc.
They prepare students for medical school and also lead to good job opportunities for the five in seven medical school applicants nationwide who are not accepted by any US medical school. There are virtually no jobs in biology for people whose highest degree is a bachelor's degree.

The competition for anesthesiology residencies after medical school is even more intense.

      Best wishes.

What is the best way to make a blog?

I have basic HTML knowledge, and I am wanting something that I can easily format and post to, but that later on down the line I can have a professional come and and upgrade it without too much difficulty (if that's possible)

  22. QUESTION:
What is the best ISP for Brighton Area?
hi there, i need some help to clear things up as the world of IPS's is a confusing one.

i live in Brighton, UK, and i am in desperate need of a new Broadband and land-line service as my current (talk-talk (part of Opal Telecom)) is rubbish for what i pay for.

I'm meant to be getting about 6mbps for the area but in fact i'm only getting around 700k at best, and sometimes its ether intermittent to unavailable or at a speed close to around 70k...

This is unacceptable but its also unchangeable as other people iv spoken to in my area with the same ISP have said the same and since my contract with them is now over im shopping for a new provider...

The this is i don't know where to start, talk-talk was my first ISP that i got for myself and my new flat at the time so i don't know what is best for my area.

I'm looking for an ISP that can provide a Static IP (iv got a server at home and id like to dabble in home hosted websites and other services as part of an education plan into Advanced networking ect)

As far as i know the bigger ISP companies like Vergin Media don't provided static IP's....

I dont want to pay over the odd ether for a provider, as im currently paying £28p/m including line rental (talktalk's top package as of last year) but i would like better more reliable service and better speeds....

    anyone have any idea's?

    Must be around £28.
    Can have static IP
And has fast net speeds and reliability.

    Domain Hosting?
I'm new at this but decided to give this all a try. I am setting up an online clothing store for my cousin and am deciding on a which web host i should use. I'm deciding between 1&1 internet's beginner plan ( http://order.1and1.com/xml/order/Hosting;jsessionid=88187EA73EAACF8C9D753C2E75A416E3.TC61b?__frame=_top&__lf=Static ) and hostgator's hatchling or baby plan ( http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml )

for the number of domains in a package::
does that mean i can only have like a HOME page? and no other links connecting to it? like a customer service page?? or is that a subdomain?

    what do you suggest?

    10 POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER

    • ANSWER:
Mandy, It is great that you have narrowed your match for web hosting down to two options. If you go with the hatchling plan you will only have one domain which will be your home page. If you are looking to have multiple pages I would go with the next plan up. Most web hosts offer unlimited domain hosting which means that you can have a home page and an unlimited amount of sub-domains linking to it.
I know that the web host I use is not one of your options listed. However, the web host that I use has a informative web page built to help know the key factors to look for in choosing the right web host. If you would like to know what some of these key factors are you can see this page at http://compare.sitesell.com/UnstoppableDreams.html

I'm currently using godaddy which I REALLY DISLIKE. It's tortuous. Everytime you buy a domain, you're blasted with screens of more options to buy crap. I dislike godaddy hosting.

I have about 8 domains and a hosting package currently on godaddy so if I switched I'd need to be able to transfer those.

I REALLY like yahoo's search engine and answers! area, etc. But I am not sure about there webhosting.

    Would need

-- ecommerce (i'm going to be selling audio products, documents, and possibly video products from the site. So auto-downloading of a purchased product is a must (I know ejunkie offers that but that's too small scale).

--Site analytics!!! I MUST have site analytics!

    -- domain transfer ease

    --quality cPanel installs

    -- low cost etc.

Thanks. Bluehost was the top of this one list, so I may check them out.

    Bye Bye Bluehost.

Customer for years... raised my rate without warning. Restricted number of emails I could send. Requested an increase and got the run around. Was told to write to someone in particular and they never wrote back or responded to any calls. POOR customer service so switched. Must be nice to be making enough $$ to not care about service anymore.

What's up with yahoo hosting? I'm interested in that.

    • ANSWER:
      John K ...

I've used Yahoo web hosting ( http://bit.ly/cHSop ) for years, and am very pleased with it. Yahoo ISP offers great price, free domain name, unlimited disk space, unlimited data transfer, unlimited email storage, 24-hour customer service, reliable hosting, etc.

      And save 25% here:
      http://bit.ly/cHSop

They also offer everything you mentioned, I believe -- ecommerce, analytics, transfers, etc.

      Good luck!

    • ANSWER:
Where'd you get all this great information on your computer? It's super-useful and I want to make everyone else give it to me, too when reporting a computer problem. :-)

I looked up your motherboard and I think this is it:

      http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=1792&ProductName=8S651MP-RZ

If that's the case, you can use any Socket 478 compatible Intel processor in it. Currently, the only 478 processor offered at NewEgg is this one:

      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116027

It's 80 bucks and not all that great, but it's significantly better than what you have in there (a 2.66Ghz Celeron). I'm not sure you'll see much improvement considering all the other parts of the computer are probably similar in quality to the processor, so it might be a bit of a waste of 80 bucks. But it's up to you. Keep in mind the processor above is OEM and won't come with a heat sink or fan. So you'll need to get some thermal paste to reuse the heat sink you have or see if you can find another one to replace it.

You might also check out pricewatch. They tend to know where to get older system components and have a large selection of 478-compatible processors. But keep in mind they just point to other sites, so you should be careful who you give your credit card information to and pay using PayPal where possible.

    • ANSWER:
If you can't afford a new processor, then you can't get a new processor. The only way you could improve it is by overclocking it, but judging by what little information that wall of text gave, you couldn't really overclock your CPU that much.

Try saving up 100$ and getting a cheap core2duo, just make sure you get a motherboard that has the correct cpu socket, or that your current mobo has a compatible socket.

  28. QUESTION:
What should I wear to an Air Force dinner event?
I know some of you are thinking that I should have posted this in the "fashion" section, but I wanted answers from women who have been in this situation and this is my best bet.

I'm attending a dinner hosted by the Key Spouse Group. Its a dinner for all the families of deployed service members. I have NO idea what to wear. I thought maybe some jean capris and a nice top, but then I thought a simple dress would be better. I know its a silly thing to worry about, but this is my first event and I want to make a good first impression. What is the usual attire for sit-down dinner?

    • ANSWER:
If it's a Deployed spouses dinner, anything goes! The point is for you to have a night out, hopefully have the kids entertained by someone else, and just relax!!

So, yes, denim capris and a nice top would be fine. We had ladies show up in everything from sweats to nice dresses. We didn't really care what they wore, as long as they were enjoying the evening!

If nothing else, talk to your key spouse or the Airman and Family Readiness Center. They'll be able to help you out.

Relax, be comfortable, and enjoy the company!!
      {{hugs!}}

  29. QUESTION:
Do you think that sometimes little children often give the best advice?
    They keep it so simple.

A "straight talking" schoolgirl has become a popular agony aunt at the age of seven after she called her local radio station and advised a listener who wanted to abandon her boyfriend.

The radio station was so impressed which the advice that the caller should go bowling with friends and drink a mug of milk that Elaina Smith has been given a weekly slot to give tips to adult listeners.

She has tackled problems ranging from how to abandon boyfriends, relationship breakdown, and smelly brothers.

Elaina, from Coventry, West Midlands, appears on Mercia FM's breakfast show and helps listeners who write to her each week. The breakfast show host Andy Goulding said: "The advice Elaina offers is laid-back and honest. We have been inundated with people emailing us with their problems since she has been on our show.

"Within a minute of us broadcasting her first slot a woman in hospital phoned in saying how much she enjoyed hearing the little girl's voice. It really cheered her up."

When one listener wrote to Elaina asking how she could find a boyfriend, she replied: "Shake your booty on the dance floor and listen to High School Musical."

A girl caller, who asked what she should do about her lazy older brother, was told: "Tell him to get a job and stop watching Loose Women (the television programme."

Elaina's mother Karen Harris, 31, a customer service employee, said her daughter was "full of confidence and the advice just comes off the top of her head. She absolutely loves it and I see a future for her in radio."

  30. QUESTION:
Who is Herman Cain you ask?
Herman Cain is running for president. He is not a career politician (in fact he has never held political office). He is known as a pizza guy, but there is a lot more to him. He is also a computer guy, a banker guy, and a rocket scientist guy. Here is his bio:
    * Bachelors degree in Mathematics.
    * Masters degree in Computer Science.
    * Mathematician for the Navy, where he worked on missile ballistics (making him a rocket scientist).
    * Computer systems analyst for Coca-Cola.
    * VP of Corporate Data Systems and Services for Pillsbury (this is the top of the ladder in the computer world, being in charge of information systems for a major corporation). All achieved before reaching the age of 35. Since he reached the top of the information systems world, he changed careers!
    * Business Manager. Took charge of Pillsbury’s 400 Burger King restaurants in the Philadelphia area, which were the company’s poorest performers in the country. Spent the first nine months learning the business from the ground up, cooking hamburger and yes, cleaning toilets. After three years he had turned them into the company’s best performers.
    * Godfathers Pizza CEO. Was asked by Pillsbury to take charge of their Godfathers Pizza chain (which was on the verge of bankruptcy). He made it profitable in 14 months.
    * In 1988 he led a buyout of the Godfathers Pizza chain from Pillsbury. He was now the owner of a restaurant chain. Again he reached the top of the ladder of another industry.
    * He was also chairman of the National Restaurant Association during this time. This is a group that interacts with government on behalf of the restaurant industry, and it gave him political experience from the non-politician side. Having reached the top of a second industry, he changed careers again!
    * Adviser to the Federal Reserve System. Herman Cain went to work for the Federal Reserve Banking System advising them on how monetary policy changes would affect American businesses.
    * Chairman of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank. He worked his way up to the chairmanship of a regional Federal Reserve Bank. This is only one step below the chairmanship of the entire Federal Reserve System (the top banking position in the country). This position allowed him to see how monetary policy is made from the inside, and understand the political forces that impact the monetary system.
After reaching the top of the banking industry, he changed careers for a fourth time!
    * Writer and public speaker. He then started to write and speak on leadership. His books include Speak as a Leader, CEO of Self Leadership is Common Sense, and They Think You Are Stupid.
    * Radio Host. Around 2007 after a remarkable 40 year career he started hosting a radio show on WSB in Atlanta (the largest talk radio station in the country). He did all this starting from rock bottom (his father was a chauffeur and his mother was a maid). When you add up his accomplishments in his life including reaching the top of three unrelated industries: information systems, business management, and banking Herman Cain may have the most impressive resume of anyone that has run for the presidency in the last half century.

    • ANSWER:
He seems like a very accomplished and decent man.

All the right experience except knowing how Washington and government and foreign policy works which is a major hole in his experience.

  32. QUESTION:
    TODAY IS GOOGLE BIRTH DAY?
    HAPPY BIRTH DAY GOOGLE
Google Inc. is an American multinational public corporation invested in Internet search, cloud computing, and advertising technologies. Google hosts and develops a number of Internet-based services and products,[5] and generates profit primarily from advertising through its AdWords program.[6][7] The company was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, often dubbed the "Google Guys",[8][9][10] while the two were attending Stanford University as PhD candidates. It was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 4, 1998, and its initial public offering followed on August 19, 2004. At that time Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Eric Schmidt agreed to work together at Google for twenty years, until the year 2024.[11] The company's mission statement from the outset was "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful",[12] and the company's unofficial slogan – coined by Google engineer Amit Patel[13] and supported by Paul Buchheit – is "Don't be evil".[14][15] In 2006, the company moved to its current headquarters in Mountain View, California.
It has been estimated that Google runs over one million servers in data centers around the world,[16] and processes over one billion search requests[17] and about twenty-four petabytes of user-generated data every day.[18][19][20][21] Google's rapid growth since its incorporation has triggered a chain of products, acquisitions, and partnerships beyond the company's core web search engine. The company offers online productivity software, such as its Gmail email service, and social networking tools, including Orkut and, more recently, Google Buzz and Google+. Google's products extend to the desktop as well, with applications such as the web browser Google Chrome, the Picasa photo organization and editing software, and the Google Talk instant messaging application. Notably, Google leads the development of the Android mobile operating system, used on a number of phones such as the Motorola Droid and the Samsung Galaxy smartphone series', as well as the new Google Chrome OS,[22] best known as the main operating system on the Cr-48 and also, since 15 June 2011, on commercial Chromebooks such as the Samsung Series 5[23] and Acer AC700.[24] Alexa lists the main U.S.-focused google.com site as the Internet's most visited website, and numerous international Google sites (google.co.in(14) and most visited site in India, google.co.uk etc.) are in the top hundred, as are several other Google-owned sites such as YouTube (Alexa:3), Blogger (Alexa:6), and Orkut.[25] Google also ranks number two in the BrandZ brand equity database.[26] The dominant market position of Google's services has led to criticism of the company over issues including privacy, copyright, and censorship.

  34. QUESTION:
Do you think this is a scam?
So I sent submitted my pictures to kidstalent.net (It was for modeling and acting and stuff) and we got a reply letter from them saying:

    >>>>>>Hi there,

Thank you for your submission! We believe Micayla could do very well in this industry - you have a beautiful and very marketable child!

If you have interest in learning further about how we can help you succeed in this industry, please send us the best phone number for contact and the best time to contact you, and we will be glad to speak with you directly.

    Best regards,

    Alex

    Head Scout<<<<<<

So we replied when a good time would be and when but after THAT email we sent this is was they said:

    >>>>>>Before we call, we just wanted to make sure you understand that we are NOT an agency - we refer your child to safe and reputable agencies, and therefore charge for such services. However, since your child will become a working model, your investment is tax-deductible!

To help answer any questions you may have, here's a summary of how we work:

Every day our company receives up to 200 new submissions, all of which are immediately screened by our casting department and evaluated for potential in the modeling industry. Of all the kids evaluated, only a small percentage is signed by us for representation.

As for our service, we do all the marketing and promotion of your kid for you through an efficient and cutting-edge method developed by our company. In summary, we build a website for your child, host it, maintain it, and have it viewed only by reputable agencies, casting directors and industry personnel nationwide - all of which are part of our exclusive network of industry resources.

Nowadays, most top agencies only accept kids through an "industry referral". The old "Mail us photos!" system no longer works. Your child needs to come recommended by someone in the industry. Guess who that "someone" is? Yes, us!!

In addition, we advise you on photos, outfits, travel, etc. - anything that you'd need to know to succeed in the industry. Never mind all the time spent on researching agencies that you'll save.

Oh, and we provide you the peace-of-mind of knowing that you'll only be dealing with legit and reputable agencies. The safety of your child is our first priority!

We do all of this for the next 3 years for a tax-deductible, one-time investment of only 5!!

    Quite a deal, huh?

In 2007 alone, children we have worked with have appeared on Disney Channel, MTV, Heroes (NBC), McDonald's commercial, Criss Angel - Mindfreak (A&E), Everybody Hates Chris (UPN), EA Sports commercial, Pier 1 catalog, Larry The Cable Guy and much more!

We are confident Micayla can have a successful career in modeling and television, and hope to help you get there faster and safely.

Your child has been carefully selected to fill a void in our roster of talent, and we're hopeful to be working with you. Yet, due to the time-sensitive nature of our business, we cannot hold your child's spot indefinitely.

If you'd still like me to call, we need to set up a convenient time for a phone meeting – within the next couple of days - to further explain to you how you can get your child represented by us.

Hope to hear from you soon!

My Chances at the schools I am applying to?
Hello. I just wanted to get some opinions on my chances at the colleges I'm applying to. This is my final list and half of these applications have been sent out already so just let me know what you think. Thank you! Here are the schools:
Duke, Georgetown (School of Foreign Services), Tufts, Middlebury, Hamilton (NY), Trinity (CT), Lafayette College, Drexel, Syracuse (S.I. Newhouse), University of Florida, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida

    My Stats:
    2110 Superscore SAT (640 CR, 760 M, 710 W)
SAT II: 700 Math II, 690 Spanish Reading
    ~3.75 GPA UW, 4.26 W
White, Male, NJ (very competitive public school)
Top 10% of class of 714 (possibly top 5%, won't find out until graduation)
All honors and APs through high school (9 APs and 14 honors classes by the time I graduate high school)
On the three AP exams I have taken: 5 English Lang/Comp, 5 Calculus AB, 4 Microeconomics

My essay was extremely personal discussing how an event in my life relating to my father's alcoholism impacted me as a person. Made my Lit teacher cry so I believe its very good.
Both of my recommenders said I was one of the best students they have ever had (I was the first recommendation my Spanish teacher had ever written so she spoke extremely well of me)
My guidance counselor and I are very close and he wrote me an outstanding recommendation about my passion for foreign languages and how he believes I will be famous for foreign relations one day.

Thank you very much! If you have any questions/comments, be sure to let me know!

    • ANSWER:
Duke - impossible to tell who they'll let in as they get so many applicants, but you seem like you'd be at least competitive for a spot if you could get your SAT and SAT II scores up
Georgetown (School of Foreign Services) - again impossible to say for sure, but this will be a little harder than duke probably because its a specialized program thus smaller and more competitive
Tufts - I'd say this is probably a target school aka 50% chance accept or reject
Middlebury - probably if you could get into the 700s on CR and for the Spanish SAT II
      Hamilton (NY) - likely
      Trinity (CT) - likely
Lafayette College - probably (they have a very strong engineer program so your math score on the SAT II wont be as impressive to them as it will be to other schools)
Drexel - is a safety for you
Syracuse (S.I. Newhouse) - most likely

i dont know the other schools so i cant say

  36. QUESTION:
    Free company website?
Hi, I have just started a small webdesign company, more of a hobby at the moment.

    http://www.neried.net.au

My priority it to build up a portfolio before I start charging people for work so I want to do a couple of business sites for free.

    Just a few conditions:
    - Small businesses only
    - I put my link on the bottom of the site
    - I use your site in my portfolio, whole point of this....
    - Nothing too complex, its a free service remember. I will focus mainly on the design and the site programming.
    - I am only going to do one or two sites, so it's first in best dressed.
    - I'd prefer Australian companies only

Free website. There is no shifty business going on, this is not a scam. You get a free website out of it for your business and I get something to show off in my portfolio.

If you haven't already got a domain, www.yourcompany.com, that would be your only cost, and that doesn't go to me.... goes to a hosting company.

    Thanks,

    Ash

I posted this before and someone requested it be deleted... why? I'm not trying to profit from this post. On top of that, someone posted a reply which gave me an address of where I should be asking these questions but I couldn't get the full URL because of your quick clicking and deleted it before I could read it, thanks.

    • ANSWER:
It is a good idea to offer a free help to get your business going. You could try posting your offer on Craigslist.

  37. QUESTION:
Is this a valid reason to fire an employee?
I worked at a pretty big Japanese restaurant (about 200 seats) as a server for 4 months. The management there lacks many things, like training new employees properly, listening to their questions or concerns, etc. I was never actually trained, so I was forced to learn through trial and error. On top of that the kitchen crew is very slow (the restaurant is known for it). During lunchtime it gets really busy, especially Saturdays as we have All You Can Eat. We don't have a hostess, as management doesn't want to have to pay more money to another employee every shift (because they're cheapskates). Because of this we have to host (greet and seat customers) on top of everything else, and there's usually only two servers working a shift.
Last week I was on lunch shift and it was getting really packed. I was running nonstop and had to deliver food JUST as a group of 5 ladies came in through the door. I bussed the food to my table quickly and ran to the door (it's pretty far away) and sat the ladies. They ALL ordered chicken teriyaki, which at this restaurant is a very decorative plate and takes 20 minutes to make. Everything was fine until they called me over and said they had to go soon and were wondering if it would be long, I told them another 5 minutes and it would be done. It took the kitchen a little over 25 minutes to make the food, which I asked them to place in to-go boxes so I could just bring it to them quickly. However while I was waiting for the food to come out I was called by one of my tables as the were ready to order. They were a large indecisive group so it took about 7 or 8 minutes for them to finalize their order. The other server I was working with was just standing behind the counter when it happened so she could have easily done me the favor of delivering the food to the women at the front. As soon as I was done I ran to the door with the food only to find out that the 5 women had left. Towards the end of my shift the manager asked me why there was food sitting out and I told him what happened. He was upset. And just my luck, the same incident happened the exact same week, where I had 3 tables on my head with 4 other table orders to punch in. This particular table's order was the last one I punched in, even though they were the second people I asked. So obviously the food had a 5 minute delay and was taking longer than expected so the customers left. I believe these two are the reasons for why I was fired. Was it a valid one? I did my best and have been complimented for my friendly and attentive service many times while working here, but apparently I am "not suitable" for the job.

    • ANSWER:
I'm sorry to hear that you were fired, especially in these tough economic times. It sounds like your former restaurant isn't being run efficiently. Whoever schedules should have put more servers on that shift or they should hire one or two more. Poor customer service (not that it was your fault) will not bring customers back, and they'll tell their friends about it.

But was there a valid reason for firing you? There doesn't have to be. As a waitress, you're an "at-will" employee, which means your employment can be terminated at any time, for any reason, without explanation. Similarly, at-will employees can quit at any time for any reason. Now, if your employer violated the law, say there was sexual discrimination, then it was not fair and you could even sue. But, it sounds like that's not the case and it was perfectly fine for you to be fired (legally). Ethically, that's a different story. Sounds like a shitty place to work and I'm sure you'll find a better job. Good luck!

  38. QUESTION:
    HELP ME PLEASE RIGHT NOW?
Senator Bill Nelson of Florida has Proposed a FEDERAL BAN on ALL Pythons. S373 is a Very Simple Bill that calls for no Appropriations (funding). That makes it Dangerous because it would be so easy to pass without any real consideration. We must take Action NOW to try and STOP this Bill from passing as written.
    What it is:
S373 is a Federal Ban that would effect ALL pythons in EVERY State.
This Bill is an effort to bypass the established process of 'Rule Change' to the Injurious Wildlife List of the Lacey Act that was initiated by the South Florida Water Management District last year. This process is moving into it's second year and is ongoing. USARK warned last April at the 'Herp Summit' in Chicago that a political move was afoot to go around the normal 'Rule Change' process. Although ridiculed by some as "Not Possible", S373 proves that prediction true.
This is an issue regarding Burmese Pythons living feral in South Florida. No other species. No where else. Other pythons have nothing to do with feral populations of Burmese Pythons in South Florida.
S373 has been moved into the Water & Wildlife Sub- Committee. It will be heard there and if given a favorable rating move back to the full Environment & Public Works Committee. (see contact info below)
    What it isn't:
This is NOT HR669 the other Federal Bill that we have been campaigning against.
There is NO Scientific Evidence to support the premise that passing S373 will have any impact whatsoever on the Burmese Python situation that is confined to the Southern tip of Florida.
There is absolutely NO Evidence of any kind to support that this is a problem anywhere outside of South Florida.
    What USARK is doing:
USARK is working with Scientists on the ground in South Florida and throughout the SE to understand the real dynamics of what has occurred with the Burmese Python. Not the hype but the Hard Facts. During their annual conference South Eastern Partners in Amphibian & Reptile Conservation (SE PARC) established an Invasive Species Task Force to look into these questions. ALL of the Best Minds on the Subject from all the top universities and government agencies were on hand. Dr. Warren Booth, PhD Invasive Species Biologist & Andrew Wyatt, both of USARK, played a leadership role in the formation of the Task Force.
Shawn Heflick is leading USARK's participation in a PBS Documentary arranged by Tom Crutchfield/ Shawn Heflick and Hosted by Nigel Marven to publicize the truth behind the Burmese Python & other potential Invasive Herps in South Florida.
USARK is not only working chest deep in the Everglades, but we are actively working to influence key personnel in the US House and Senate, as well as the National Park Service and the US Fish & Wildlife Service. From the Everglades to Washington DC we are working hard on behalf of our community and industry to assure that if any legislation is passed, it will be fair and in the best interests of the Herp Community. We have No other conflicting allegiances.
USARK has introduced State Legislation including Non- Release & Escape Prevention provisions providing safety measures at the State level.
What Can You Do Today to STOP S373?
Join USARK's Reptile Nation! There is Strength in Numbers... Protect Your Rights!
Call, write, email & fax the Sponsor and the Sub-Committee for S373. (contact info & sample letter below)
Be Polite & Professional. If you can't do this don't bother because it will damage our efforts.
***Forward this to everyone on your email list, post it on every forum/ social networking site.
When you have finished with the steps above, send an email to senate373@yahoo.com with 'No on S373' in the Subject Line so that USARK can track the number of responses.
    Sample Letter (cut & paste):
    Subject: NO on S373
I oppose S373 as written. The Burmese Python issue is a South Florida issue not a National one. There is No credible evidence to show that these animals can exist north of Lake Okeechobee. Many different species of Pythons have been imported into the US over the last 50 years. The only pythons that have been established have been Burmese Pythons, but only in South Florida; no where else. No evidence exists anywhere to suggest that Banning all Pythons will have any positive impact on the effected area in the southern tip of Florida.
Banning all pythons nationwide would have a devastating effect on an already troubled economy. It would destroy thousands of hardworking American families and small businesses. Not just the breeders and dealers but hobbyists, dry goods, equipment manufacturers, food providers, shippers, trade shows, hotels and restaurants. To overlook the crushing blow this would have to an entire segment of the economy is irresponsible.
(add what S373 would mean to you and your family)
    Sincerely,
    (signature line)

    • ANSWER:
Thanks for posting this. I have been talking about the proposed bills for months on Answers and nobody seems to care. This is only one of many and from my observation on this site, more people keep getting reptiles they know nothing about and it makes me just a little mad. Those are the people who should never have reptiles. They are arrogant impulse buyers that affect all of us responsible herp keepers and breeders. Most people don't under stand that there turtles, snakes (other than boas and pythons), lizards, frogs, toads, and birds will all get affected by these proposed bans. I am a member of USARK, I just wish more people would take this seriously. My wife and I are starting a large constrictor sanctuary to help control the population of these animals in the wild.

    • ANSWER:
You're right to be cautious about talent agencies. My cousin, an aspiring actor and model, has encountered a lot of scam artists in the field.

It might be best to talk with someone who is able to tell a respectable agency from one that will take advantage of you. My cousin talked with some local actors who were well-known, as well as professors at his university, and they helped him out.

Asking for money up-front is a big warning sign. So is making promises that sound unrealistic (in 6 months you'll be in Hollywood, etc).

  42. QUESTION:
    High School Diploma or GED?!?
Okay, so I've found myself in a tough situation and I'm not sure how to look at it or where to really go from here. I am currently a junior in high school. I spent my first two years of high school in the United States. Then last year I applied for a government scholarship, maybe you've heard of it-- the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program. So right not I am currently in Germany living with a host family and going to school. The problem is that my school back in the states will not accept any of the credits I receive here, for whatever reasons. I have 6 to 8 credits left to graduate and get my diploma. However, I am set on not going back to "regular high school". Such a waste of time, and I can't stand being surrounded by such immature people, hence why I applied for the program I am taking part in now. So I've been trying to figure out the best way to finish out my high school I guess, and I've gotten a lot of suggestions. I've looked into online programs, correspondence, and people have also recommended just taking my GED. But does that really look good to colleges and/or prestigious universities? For example, Georgetown University or Boston College?

So far I feel like I have a pretty good resume coming together. I mean the scholarship I'm on is only awarded to 250 American students, I've been to Nicaragua 3 times within the past year and a half on mission trips, before I left the states I was in the top quarter of my class, I took all honors classes, involved in community service, part of the debate team at my old high school, and I'm looking at going to Uganda for 6 months next year (what should be my senior year) to intern and volunteer at a home for children who have been orphaned by AIDS. On top of that, I'll be taking my SAT and SAT subject tests this year, so assuming I do well on those, I feel like I'm doing alright.

SO I know that was long, sorry, but I'm just not sure if getting a GED is justified with what else I have to offer? Or the situation I'm in... and I'm not sure how colleges really look at that?

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Diploma is the better way to go. A GED does not sound good. I dropped out of school when I was in 11 grade. I went back to school for another year when I was 20 so I could do it the right way. Its has paid off in the end!

  43. QUESTION:
your right no one likes yous not my words but the spanish press?
    As translated from El Mundo

    Translated

PLEASE, DON'T EVER COME BACK AGAIN

Dear Rangers supporters- never come back to Barcelona again. And not because your players themselves aren’t a legitimate team. No, it’s not because of that- the Nou Camp frequently hosts teams who are lazy, boring, who only defend, who run and kick their opponents, and who shouldn’t be in elite competition. On top of this, Rangers merely defend, run at the opposition and play dirty. Their defenders are butchers, their midfielders, heavy-footed; and their strikers just stand there like the furniture.

But even apart from the footballing aspect, the best thing would be for Rangers never to return to Barcelona, because every time they do, they make a mess of the place. 35 years ago, you (the Rangers supporters) destroyed the seats at the Nou Camp. This time we have enjoyed no less than 48 hours of brawls, provocation, rackets, fights and common drunk women throughout the whole city, which you have fouled however you pleased.

Stay at home and vomit in your own living-room, urinate in your sitting-room corners, fight with your neighbours, the Celtic supporters (who deserve a prize just for putting up with you) and foul the streets of Glasgow instead. Don’t come back here again, because it is not a laughing matter. And, by extension, don’t play in the Champions’ League either. You are not at that level neither in a sporting nor human sense.

There are noisy groups of supporters who, although they drink vast amounts of beer, make friends at the same time. But you? Not you, because everywhere you go, you turn into a rubbish tip. You are undesirables. And so are those who fraudulently sell, or “rent out” their tickets. These people screw Barca over, because they trade their season tickets illegally. And in doing this they cause massive annoyance for other members of the club. A true Barcelona fan would not re-sell their ticket for the match. If you are not going to the match, give it to a family member, or you could even use the 'Seient Lliure' service (an automated ticket service used by some Spanish clubs including Barcelona).

From now on, the responsibility lies with UEFA and the club itself to ensure who the ticket is sold to. The best thing for all of us would be that you as a supporter, in a moment of lucidity, decide not to travel if you do not have tickets. As that is never going to happen, those who sell the tickets illegally must be brought to justice. But the best thing would be if we never had to play Rangers again.

    • ANSWER:
Can I just point out that there were several prominent press critics of the rangers fans' behaviour. Also the Mayor had some very negative things to say about them. On the other side of the coin, the scottish press' positive reports are based on the objective endorsement of no less than 'Ibrox chief of ops and security - kenny scott'. Sorry, but you couldn't make it up.

  45. QUESTION:
    Good romance anime/manga?
Okay, I love dark anime, like Heart no Kuni No Alice(that's actually a manga, but whatever), I do not like disturbing anime like Higurashi. I really like reverse harem animes. I hated Sailor Moon, and most magic girl animes, with few exceptions. I don't like goofy anime. Or too old. And I like blood. Vampires are always nice... Love triangles rock. Supernatural occurances are a must. Also no ecchi or hentai, or any sexuality, if there's one scene, in the entire thing, or even once in a great while, that's ok, but not too much in case my mom walks in at the wrong moment, y'know? I'm 13, and Its hard to find animes for kids my age, most are for highschoolers or grade schoolers, so preferably around my age, or just a smidge older.

    I have already seen:
    3x3 Eyes (hated it)
    Ah! My goddess (reeeeeally boring)
Air (worst anime ever. completely boring)
    Angel beats! (awesome!!!!)
Ayashi no Ceres (nope. do not like this one either)
    Bleach(rocked my face...)
    Blood+(my 2nd fav!!!!)
Blue Dragon(so-so. I guess it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it..)
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo( NO. WORST ANIME EVER.)
Card Captor Sakura( they're REALLY young.... wish they were older...)
Code Geass (pretty good for a mecha anime..)
Death Note (OMG!!!! MY ABSOLTE FAVORITE!!!! I LOVE THIS ANIME SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!)
Dragon Ball(HATED IT. WITH A PASSION. NEVER AGAIN.)
    Fairy Tail
Fortune Arterial(not what one would expect from a vampire anime...)
Fruits Basket (gotta be in my top 10 favorites...)
Fullmetal Alchemist(not too far in but I haven't really been hooked yet...)
Full Moon wo Sagashite(very good, but quite boring so far...)
Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play (god, one can only take so many anime cliches at once. NO MORE!)
Gakuen Alice(ADORED IT. But, wish the characters were a little older)
InuYasha(really good, but I would not watch it twice...)
Itazura na Kiss (GOD, it was terrible.....but still entertaining at the same time...)
Kaichou wa Maid-sama! (Lost my place but it was great!)
    Karin Chibi Vampire
    Kiki's Delivery Service
Kodomo no Omocha(LOVED it, but I wish the kids were a smidge older.)
    La Corda D'Oro (LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
    Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Love Hina (watched first episode, kind of gave up, didn't look like it was going anywhere)
Lovely Complex (dropped, bored me to death)
Lucky Star(I REFUSE TO WATCH THIS. IT'S ONLY ON HERE SO YOU DON'T RECCOMEND IT)
Marmalade Boy(NO! YOU DO THAT OUTSIDE!!!!)
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya( GREAT. :) )
    Ouran High School Host Club
    Peach Girl
Pretear (#3 on my fav list)
    Ranma 1/2
    Romeo x Juliet
Sailor Moon (if you know me, you know how bad i HATE sailor moon...)
    Shugo Chara!(on of the best :) )
    Skip Beat!(so-so)
Special A (very good, but I don't like how there a virtually no love rivals)
    Spirited Away
Starry☆Sky (only 3 eps in LOVE it..)
Tokyo Mew Mew (ok, but unless your watching sailor moon, you can't get any more cheesy than this...)
    Toradora!(ok, i guess)
Trinity Blood(3 eps in, not too impressed)
    Vampire Knight ( Loved it!!!!)
Weiss Kreuz(only 3 episodes in and its awseome!!!)
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge(good but VERY VERY cheesy)
    I've already read:
    Angelique
    Ouran Highschool Host Club
    Absolute Boyfriend
    Heart no Kuni No Alice
    Bloody Kiss
    Fruits Basket
    Fushigi Yuugi
    La Corda D'Oro
I actually had written this exact thing on my facebook, so ignore comments I put in like "If you know me you know hw bad I hate sailor moon" also, cheesy is a word I use to decribe very poor and/or cliche anime.

    • ANSWER:
Young lady, I am quite impressed with your list. Am also impressed that you read Manga. I'm a bit worried about some of the titles I'm going to recommend are a bit older for you but I watched them at your age, if they were available(I'm twice your age!). Also a Heart no Kuni no Alice fan!

      Anime:

      *Chobits (romantic sci fi comedy)
      *DNAngel (romantic fantasy comedy)
Gankutsuou (Dark anime version of the Count of Monte Cristo)
*Kuroshitsuji (Dark Faust style anime, very Victorian)
      Whisper of the Heart
Princess Mononoke (at 13 I literally had this movie memorized)
Magic Knight Rayearth (I will warn you, on the surface it's looks like typical Magical Girl series but trust me on this, get to the end)
      Earl and Fairy
      *Monogatari Saiunkoku
*Le portrait de la Petite Cosestte
      *Wolf's Rain
      *MoonPhase (Vampire)

      Manga
      +Anima
      Bound Beauty
      Her Majesty's Dog
Pet Shop of Horrors (There IS an anime but it's only 4 ep. long)
Millenium Snow (on hiatus only 2 long, same writer as OHSHC)
      Akuma to Dolce
      Night of the Beasts
      Yurara/Rasetsu (Rasetsu is the sequel)
      Othello
      Black Bird
      Gentleman's Alliance

You'll have to forgive me. It's late and a lot of my stuff is in boxes right now and it's late. (*) on anime means there is a manga as well.

  46. QUESTION:
Craptastic credentials! What colleges to apply to?
As application deadlines draw nigh, I find myself becoming stressed over my future prospects. Throughout high school I would be described as an average student. Compared to the typical "CCer", my chances for a prestigious higher education appear dismal. Although my credentials are mundane, it is necessary for me to work with what I have. Personally, I have no allegiance to a particular university. However- I do have some basic criterium in mind when selecting a school.

I am interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in either Economics, Political Science, or Engineering. Additionally, I would prefer a large and active student body and campus. With these broad criteria in mind, which university would best fit my profile? Or since I am 16, and won't be of age come college would it be in my best interest to attend community college for a year or take a gap year and travel?

How should I approach my essay, and finally what are my chances at the following schools? Additionally is there any way where I can include the reason for my slip in grades and class rank during my Junior year? I was diagnosed with mono and was absent for 17 days- 1 day short of having to repeat my junior year due to attendance.

    1.University of Texas-Austin
    2. Texas A&M
    3. Baylor University
    4. LSU
    5. Penn State
    6. University of Massachusetts Amherst
    7. U of Michigan Ann Arbor
    8. Suny Stonybrook
    9. UNC Chapel Hill
    10. University of Chicago (Avery huge stretch, however I am inundated with letters and emails from them. Not sure why)

    Thanks

    • ANSWER:
You really should get into Louisiana State. I actually think that's a backup school for you.

You probably will get into UMass, SUNY Stony Brook.

You stand an okay shot at A&M and Baylor.

The others what I'd call "high fits" to reaches. You might/might not get into those. You should apply, though. Especially to UT Austin - you're in-state, so it's a bargain, it's a fabulous uni, and it's very very strong in engineering.

You are a bit young v. a typical college student. But if you'll be 17 when you enter college, I'm not worried about that.

You can address your junior year drop in grades on your application. Do so, as it might help. Keep it brief - you got mono, but recovered. It impacted your grades, but only temporarily; and they went back to normal the following year.

I see no reason why you should go to cc first.

i have a acer computer with windows vista my modem is tp-link my internet service is talktalk any help would be much appreciated thanks for your time
i spoke to talk talk and they seem to think i have to phone the modem provider grr they are in china i dont know what to do

    • ANSWER:
Check the router and see if it's getting a DNS address. (Check the router documentation to see where the router status information is.) If it is your computer is configured wrong. If it isn't, your router is configured wrong. We have to know which one to help you with. (Fixing a flat tire doesn't fill an empty tank.)

  50. QUESTION:
Chances of getting into an Ivy league school (with Additional details from the first question like it)?
I know there isn't a magic formula for getting into a top tier school but pretend your the admissions officer. Any help would be appreciated.

    Academic standing-
    Gpa is a 3.9
    Weighed Gpa is a 4.0
I have straight A's throughout high school. However I received 1 b+, which brought my GPA down.

I don't have my results from my ACT yet but it will be in the range from 25 to 30. I don't think I will get anywhere higher than 30 or lower than 25.

I am in National Honors Society. I am the president of my class. I have over 300 hours of volunteer service in my community. I am a varsity attorney for mock trial. I am on the varsity dance team at my high school. I believe I'm going to get captain for my senior year.

These are my "hooks" or things that make me stand out.
I am involved in national and statewide youth boards. I have spoken at national youth conferences and hosted workshops at conferences in my state. I do a lot of advocating for youth voice and empowerment.
I am the South West Youth Representative for the MN Youth Council.

I have some EXTREME special circumstances:

My mother came from East Africa with my father. My dad left my family when I was young and so my mother worked overtime at a meat packing plant to compensate for 5 children as a single mother. My mom had a horrible accident at the plant she was working at and now suffers from chronic back problems. She can no longer work and my family has relied heavily on government aid.

My mother is a hardworking person and enjoys being self-reliant so being stopped from working has led her to have severe depression. I pretty much raised myself and took care of my family from a young age.

My family is way below the poverty line and my siblings and I took the initiative to work as early as we could to help pay bills.

I know my story is disheartening but that's what you call the "American Dream" right. HA, anyways I hope this can get me an Ivy League education.

I am not the typical applicant, I had to mature from an early age and I hope I can reflect all of my achievements through my personal statement.

I know this is long, thanks for taking the time to read- I will award best answer.
    Additional details
k thanks for the responses- I was recently invited to a private conference at Stanford university with an all expense paid trip. The dean, and admissions officers told me I should emphasize my special circumstances; especially because small portions of Ivy League applicants are low income.

I also forgot to mention I recently won a national essay contest and had the opportunity to attend the National Republican Convention and meet influential members in the Republican Party.

Addressing the AP comment- my school allows a limited amount of ap classes per year. Also they do not allow you to take Ap in freshman year therefore minor difference in my gpa.

k tell me if that helps any and thanks for the honest opinions.

    • ANSWER:
Oh my god, honestly if I was an ivy league school and I was told to create the perfect student for my school, it would be you! Honestly this is an amazing story and I feel humbled reading it. Just keep working hard like you always have and you are going to go places.
