Now, if getting a hosting account is new to you, I recommend getting their baby plan which will costs less than /month. Of course, if you prepay for more months ahead, the price gets cheaper as with most monthly subscriptions. Oh, and there is no contract.

     I've never had a problem with them. The support is excellent, I've used the support maybe 3 times and everytime I got an agent in less than 10 minutes which is good for hosting. Plus, they were friendly, took care of the problem and didn't treat me like an idiot.

      If you want a truly reliable web host with quality service, I'd strongly recommend Host Gator. It does offer a domain registration service coupled with its web hosting.

      But generally, a domain name registered with a web host costs a few bucks more per year. That's one thing you must know.

      If you register your domain name with a domain registrar, you can get cheaper. It's just that you need to change your dns server manually (it's not difficult though).

      However, if quality is your main concern and you want to save yourself the hassle of manually changing dns server, and you don't mind paying a few bucks more for the domain name when you sign up with the web hosting, then I don't think you'll have a problem with Host Gator.

I use yahoo cause it's a reputable company, and with the one username and password that I have for yahoo.mail I have access to all my hosting and domain services. I got a deal from them for .99 domain name, which I own, and actually now have 3 domains and use their server to host. The cost is minimal .00 a month, and I get a site tracker service that gives me the rundown of how many times my site has been visited, which pages were visited, and the average screen resolution of the computers that visited my site. I also have 200 email addresses that I can create with 2 G of space (which is expandable). There are alternatives though that cost less. IX Webhosting (www.ixwebhosting.com) is a cheap alternative. You get 10 G of space and 2 domains for like a month. However, I don't think you get any email services from them, but It all depends if you need something like that. Both Yahoo and IX will provide you usernames and passwords for FTP, all you need is the FTP program which are easy to find. If you need one go to the website below.

      One of my measures is to look for whether they have their own data centers. If they have their own building and data center, it pretty much tells you that they are legit and reliable enough. If they have their own data centers, chances are, they also have their own tech and support departments standing by for your assistance. With that in mine, companies like hostgator, 1and1 and/or aplus.net are good enough.
      I personally use hostgator, 1and1 for webhostings and aplus.net for domain names. I like all of them but I feel like hostgator has better service than 1&1.

As for the hosting package, I also followed its advice. It's one of the cheapest hosting package that I managed to find after using the recommended discount code of "Valuediscount25".

      1. The way I see it, the easiest way to understand how to create professional looking (and functioning) websites is to just actually look at some.

      2. Professional need not equal expensive. What makes a website appear 'professional' anyway? For me, that means it's a lot like a professional resume: a defined purpose, articulate, consistent fonts, correct spelling, concise segments and simple, straight-forward navigation.

      Ironically, it has been that a lot of the most simplistic sites that are the most lucrative. Consider "Google", for example; there aren't any cutesy animations (actually, no animation at all), glaring colors, music streams or embedded videos...but it became a multi-billion dollar company. Same for Craigslist.org; by today's garish in-your-face MySpace standards, craigslist is exceedingly primitive..but it gets the job done.

      And getting the job done is what makes businesses *work*.

      And here's another thing if you're considering rich graphics for your site (which I'm not saying is completely bad): not only would an effective site be one that can display properly in the most browsers (and loads quickly at the most bandwidths) possible, a site that would ultimately like *international* sales would be prudent to keep as much of it's text as non-graphic font-based as possilbe. Why? Because selectable, rendered fonts can be *translated*, while words that are part of graphics wouldn't be changed. At the least, you certainly wouldn't want any important product/ordering information to be untranslatable.

      In short, I think a professional website is, like a good salesperson, friendly, accessible, inviting and comprehensively informative, with no elements that could "turn off" someone....as a turn off can be a lost sale.

      Since we're here, after all, I suppose I should mention that Yahoo itself has a webhosting plan with tools for website creation and merchandizing. Is it the best? I don't know, but it's at least worth looking into...it doesn't hurt to window shop it, anyway.

      I will answer part of this, as I have done this and it is legal, if a bit over the line ! Work as a sub-contractor directly for Dad company. You are a sub, but can use his federal and state info. with his premission. This way you can also funnel income into his company and he can pay you as his ; lets say you are a rental company he uses and he pays you income renting whatever you agreed to supply. Its like an S Corp. set up. You don't take a salary, instead you lease your truck and tools to the corp. and take the lease payments ( which are non-tax-able) as income. same trick. just be careful if you do begin making too much money to pay your tax's thru DAD co. so he won't get in a jam... good luck!

    Why is there such a huge difference in the price of internet domain registrations, between registrars?
    Is there some variance in the degree of ownership one has of their domain, whether they buy from one company or another? I'm just trying to understand what constitutes or justifies the difference. -I have seen single domain registrations for as low as .95, to as high as (actually, sometimes higher).

    Also, please share with me what domain registration sites, hosting sites, and web design sies and/or services you have had good experiences with.

      f. you can do an interpolation. it was 14352 in the year before and is 29755 in the following year. If you look at your graph you will most likely find it easy to show the estimated value for 1996. And you can use your formula with the closest value for x to find the desired y.
      g. obviously before 1993. Again interpolate.
      h. The older the data the less accurate the forecast, not so?

44. QUESTION:
    Best e-mail server options for a small business?
    I work at a small company and we're trying to find a better solution for e-mail. Currently we use Outlook retrieving mail by POP3 from a hosting service, however their servers are becoming increasingly unreliable. Also, we want all email to be backed up on a local central server instead of having mailboxes on each PC or depending on a remote server for our critical data. I suggested using some service that works by IMAP, but my boss is weary of relying on unreliable ISPs.

    The main problem with our system now is that all email retrieved by POP3 has to be stored locally on each PC, which leaves us vulnerable in case of a PC crash or data loss (and also makes accessing our mail from home or by mobile device cumbersome). We've tried storing the Outlook mailboxes on a local network file server, but this has proven to be extremely problematic as well, since any lag or glitch on the local network makes Outlook throw a fit.

    1) Our internet connection is not reliable enough for us to host the e-mail servers locally

    2) We've had bad experiences with a number of ISPs in the past, so whoever we go with needs to be extremely reliable and also have proven remote backup solutions, and ideally we want some kind of local backup

    3) We send and receive a lot of large file attachments so the service needs to have a large disk quota and fast transfer rates at reasonable cost

    Is there any kind of solution like a local IMAP caching server or something like that, which mostly relies on the ISP but allows us to still read already-downloaded mail when the internet connection is down?

    Editing an existing webpage, what software do I need?
    I have taken over a small company. There is a professionally built web page already active but the design/ hosting company charges us a fortune for any text or layout changes I need. I want to bring it in house to save money, but I have only used wysiwyg editors like coffee cup in the past. Someone suggested Google Sites, but I can't see anything on internet sites, only intranet.

    Is there software out there I can use? My html is basic at best, but I am pretty computer savvy. Ideally on the cheaper end of the scale.

    I will want to create new pages (with the same layout as existing pages), edit text and pictures and include links to our pages and to other sites.

    Any suggestions?

    Should I move even though it could cost me my kids living with me?
    OK here it goes, I'm a single dad of 2 beautiful children, a 8yr old girl and a 6yr old boy. I have been the one that has taken care of them since our divorce 6 years ago and honestly Ive been the one that has taken care of them since birth. I am a disabled Vet, and about 6 years ago I got hurt again making it so I could no longer perform my trade. Since then the VA has sent me to school where I received my Masters degree in Network/Internet Security, and a bachelors degree in programming. The problem is where I live and the immediate area/states around THERE ARE NO JOBS. Now while I have been on a disability pension and I am able to live off it (to a certain degree) I feel the major need to get a job. I hate sitting around everyday all day. Granted I have started a few things on my own like a web hosting company, website building, Computer repair and computer/network building, and so much more. None of these things brings in any real money. This may be because I have no money for advertising and it could be many other reasons like everyone around me has no money. Anyways I am considering moving from Maine to either Virgina or Washington DC. Both these places have TONS of great jobs. The problem comes in where my X (understandably) doesn't want the kids to leave with me. She did say we should ask the kids where they want to live. She said she would respect there wishes. The thing is I don't know if I can stand to be away from them. Its always been me and the kids. I cant stand the thought of leaving them for a job, but the other end of that same coin how am I any kind of role model if they see me sitting on my butt collecting money. I have done my best to teach them ( as far as there age is concerned) about the benefits of working and not just sitting on welfare, but I'm not leading by example. So the question is (and sorry for being so long winded) do I go get a job and create a good life for me and my kids? Do I stay put and never go anywhere in life? What do I do? I'll leave this where it is and answer any questions you all have. I just want to know if it is wrong for me to want to get a good job even though it could cost me having the kids live with me.
    I will say one more set of things actually. First I am able to give the kids better computers than they have now so we can do video conferencing whenever they want, I know my X would never stop me from talking to them. I also know that if I do do this I will be able to come and see them or bring them to me anytime I want or they want. I will only honestly be 12 hours away by car. My kids can at will decide to come and live with me anytime (my X has already stated that she will respect there wishes), and to my cringing I do have to give my X a bit of props when saying she has lets, just say GROWN UP a lot since we have divorced so I know my kids are safe with her.     I just want to reply to the couple answers that have came in. First answer no I have not decided to move as of yet. I am debating with myself atm and though comming here might give me a bit more info to work with. The second answer I have to agree with you about asking the kids. I didnt think of that. thank you also I have total plans if I were to do this to do all my homework first and that would include getting a job and a home before moving. Also we have already talked about that type of visitation where her or I would take them for the summer and mix up the holidays. Also we are not at eachothers throts anymore so we dont run to lawyers as much as we used to.

      It does kinda sound like you have already decided to go - sorry but that seems to be the tone that is coming across.

      When my kids were younger - I had a chance to double my income, but it would have meant leaving the kids with my ex for 3 months whilst I completed the training course. I chose to stay with the kids (they always come first) I stuck it out, got another opportunity which involved moving but the kids could come with me, and it was only 3/4 hour away from my ex. This meant we were all happy.
